Currently all barber licensing in Washington state falls under the WA State Dept. of Licensing: Barbering in Seattle.
Washington Licensing Requirements
In order to become a licensed barber in Washington, you will first need to enroll in and complete an appropriate course in a barber school. The prerequisites for entrance into the school may vary, but most require applicants to be at least 17 years of age and have a high school diploma or equivalent. The state requires completion of at least a 1,000 hour program in the selected school before a license can be issued. Once you have logged the required school hours, an appointment can be scheduled at one of the approved licensing locations located around the state. The fee for taking the written test is $55, and the fee for the practical exam is $110, in addition to a Department of Licensing fee of $25 and a processing fee of $5.
Washington License Renewal
Your barber license can be renewed online using the password you received with your renewal notice. To renew online, just type in your password, enter your information and pay by credit card. Alternatively, you can renew your license by mail by send your completed application form and fee to:

Renewal fees are $55, or $110 if your renewal is late. If you fail to renew your license after one year, you must reapply for the license and retake all appropriate exams.
License Reciprocity in Washington
Individuals wishing to transfer their barber license from another to state to Washington must have a valid barber license from that state and have taken a practical and written exam from that state. Your barber certificate, application and a transfer fee of $50 should be sent to the board.
