Currently, all barbers licensing in Virginia is done through the Virginia State board of Cosmetology. Before applying for a license, you must go to a licensed school and pass an exam.

1500 hours of training at barber school or 3000 hours apprenticeship
Must take licensing exam.
Virginia Barber License Renewal.
You must renew your license in Virginia every two years. This must be done at the end of the month it was issued. The cost to renew is typically $140. Although Virginia does not require continuing education courses, it is highly recommended to take these courses to stay alert to any new trends in the industry.
